The history of the Nike Dunk High begins in 1985, on the basketball courts of the NCAA league, the American college championship.
It is during this decisive year for the American equipment manufacturer that the famous high top sneaker stamped with the Swoosh was born. It is the work of the designer Peter Moore, who designed at the same time another reference well known to fans of sneakers: the Air Jordan 1. The Dunk High is closely inspired by Michael Jordan's first signature shoe. As evidenced by its very similar design.
Like its elder brother, the high version of the Nike Dunk is equipped with a structure typical of b-ball models of the time, with a soft leather upper, perforated on the top of the toes, and a thick rubber sole with a circular pivot point on its outer cover. This is a technical feature inherited from the Air Force 1 that Bruce Kilgore designed in 1982 to provide basketball players with perfect stability on the court.
The Dunk High was immediately released in several colorways as the "Be True To Your School" pack, a historic collection created to allow college basketball players to wear their respective team colors from head to toe.
