Highlights of the year 2021

Les faits marquants de l’année 2021

A few hours before 2022, Kikikickz offers you a retrospective of the year 2021. 12 months, 12 facts that marked the fashion industry, sneakers and more globally street culture!

January 2021 : Gucci x The North Face

The year started very strong with the immediate arrival of a collab Gucci x The North Face. A most surprising alliance between the outdoor label and the Italian House, which has for the occasion revisited the classics of its sidekick by affixing its monogram in a profusion of colors.

March 2021: Lil Nas X Satan Shoes

An eccentricity that made a lot of ink flow! Lil Nas X called on the MSCHF collective to customize an Air Max 97 on the theme of the devil: black and red colors, pentagram, drop of human blood ... the pair has caused a stir across the Atlantic and is the subject of a complaint from Nike, which will be able to cancel the marketing. But not the buzz.

April 2021: Gucciaga

While collaborations are legion today, the alliance of two historic companies was unprecedented. Gucci and Balenciaga made history with their 'Hacker Project', a challenge to appropriate each other's codes. Seeing Gucci and Balenciaga signatures on the same fabric, who would have thought?

June 2021: YEEZY x GAP

We have been waiting for a long time, the YEEZY x GAP collaboration is finally out. It's been released slowly, but it was enough to make the web go crazy: according to the annual ranking of the fashion research platform Lyst, it's simply the most hype collab of the year.

June 2021: Travis Scott x Dior Summer 2022 collection

Used to invite artists for his Dior collections, Kim Jones has for the first time in the history of the House called on a musician, the inevitable Travis Scott. This Summer 2022 wardrobe was postponed due to the rapper's recent setbacks, but he made a strong impression when he was revealed on the catwalk.

August 2021: DONDA

Any Kanye West album is bound to be an event. But his new album DONDA has generated countless reactions, both for the musical content and the side effects, including those listening sessions where he appeared masked with extravagant outfits mixing his own designs with Balenciaga.

August 2021: Off-White x Nike Dunk Low "The 50

One of Virgil Abloh's latest footwear releases was a pack of 50 numbered Dunk Low. Beyond the impressive number of versions, this collection "The 50" is significant in that it introduced a new mode of exclusive access to Nike, conditioned by the activity of members on SNKRS. Another way to make history.

September 2021: Balenciaga x Fortnite

One of the big moments of the year. Adept at counterpunching, Balenciaga has done it again by collaborating with Fortnite, both to dress the game's characters with its looks and to offer a capsule in physical. Enough to seduce the gaming and high fashion spheres, and to make talk well beyond!

September 2021: Balenciaga x The Simpsons

Balenciaga again! And surprise still coming from the artistic director Demna Gvasalia, who made the Simpsons parade during the women's fashion week Spring/Summer 2022. A digital presentation with a humorous narrative, playing on the clichés of fashion and France, and the apotheosis of a successful year for Balenciaga - which has also returned to haute couture - once again the most desirable brand in the world.

September 2021: Fendace

The Gucciaga madness has obviously been emulated, since Fendi and Versace have followed. Again, we're not talking about a collaboration, but a 'Swap': the artistic directors of the two houses have exchanged roles to create a co-signed wardrobe. Another great surprise from the catwalk!

November 5: The Astroworld drama

The Astroworld festival, organized by Travis Scott on November 5 in Houston, turned into a tragedy. 50,000 people had rushed to attend the show of La Flame, much too many for the planned organization: panic movements caused 10 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Prosecuted for negligence, dropped by collaborators and sponsors, will the now ex-king of the hype be able to return to the front of the stage?

November 28: The death of Virgil Abloh

The year ended with sad news: the death of Virgil Abloh, taken by a rare form of cancer at the age of 41. A genius creator with multiple hats, he has marked the history of fashion and sneakers, democratizing these two sectors to a point never reached before. No doubt that his work and his career will continue to inspire.
